• The Careers Hub

Careers Hubs are a central part of the Government’s Careers Strategy December 2018. The strategy aims to improve careers education and help prepare young people for the world of work. East Sussex is one of 20 Hubs across the country transforming careers education for young people. As a Hub we are proud that we are working with 40 secondary schools, colleges and special schools and with partners in the business, public, education and voluntary sectors to deliver the Gatsby Benchmarks and ensuring that careers outcomes are improved for all young people.

Hastings Opportunity Area sits within the Careers Hub. In 2016 Hastings was ranked 282 out of 324 on the Social Mobility Index. The Department of Education has invested up to £6 million to set up The Hastings Opportunity Area. A 3 year programme tasked with identifying key areas for improvements, and then working with local businesses, schools, nurseries and colleges to give every young person the chance to go as far as their talents and hard work will take them.
